We experience a lot as Jackson Hole Photographers, but this was a first! Have you ever imagined what it would be like for your boyfriend to ask for your hand in marriage on top of a mountain in the middle of a blizzard? Well, I didn’t until we got to witness how romantic and epic this Piste Mountain Bistro proposal was.
Dan and I were messaging back and forth for weeks trying to plan a surprise proposal on their Christmas vacation to Jackson hole. He decided he wanted to do it on top of the mountain resort. We texted multiple times the day of the proposal getting ready to meet them and where and how.
Dan decided he was going to surprise his girlfriend, Rosey, at their lunch reservation at the renowned Piste Mountain Bistro that is located on top of the mountain. This location has amazing views of the mountain range and there are so many sports that make the images uniquely tied to the Jackson Hole, WY area. With it being December, and 90% snow in the forecast, the peaks of the mountain range were not visible, but it didn’t take away from the experience at all! Special shout out to the staff at Piste Mountain Bistro. We got the waiters and other people in the restaurant sitting near them to participate. They all cheered and made sure there was enough space.
Dan texted and said he was going to pretend my husband was his and was his long lost friend. Sure enough, before Dan even saw my husband’s face husband’s face he said,” Kody is that you”?! I was trying not to laugh because it just seemed too obvious what was going on. Dan has a lot of friends so she said,” oh what a small world”. Dan texted that he was ready and asked Rosie if she wanted to take a picture. Apparently she is the Queen of pictures pictures, and always wants to take photos. However, this time she said it was too cold.
Dan finally convinced her to get up and take a photo. As soon as she stood up, he knelt down pretending to tie his shoe. Dan stood backup because because he couldn’t get to the ring box in his pocket. He pulled the box out and knelt back down and opened it. Rosey was overcome with emotion as she said,”yes”! As she was admiring her gorgeous ring Dan said,” that was a lot of root canals” Haha. If you are lost, Dan is a dentist! We chatted and ate some lunch, then we braved the storm to get some photos.
In order to get to the Piste Mountain Bistro, you have to take the Bridger Gondola. In your private cabin you will travel for 12 minutes while being 2,700 feet off the ground. Be prepared for the breathtaking views. When you get to the top there are many activities such as hiking, yoga, eating, and photography opportunities.
There are four elk antler arches at the four corners of Jackson Hole’s town square. If there is an iconic photo of being in Jackson Hole, its your family standing in front of these arches. We wanted to make sure Dan and Rosey got the Jackson Hole Experience. So, we came back down the mountain to get photos of Dan and Rosey in front of the arches. It was the perfect way to end the day!
