Island Park Engagement- Sawtelle Mountain

 I love being an Island Park Photographer. This Island Park engagement on Sawtelle Mountain is so dreamy! I was so excited when I found out I was taking Katie’s engagement photos because she wanted mountain scenery and wildflowers which are my favorite.

I had the perfect place in mind in Island Park however it was extremely hot is extremely hot the days leading up to the shoot and the wildflowers DIED! Thanks a lot, Idaho! Our prolonged winter and heatwave of a spring/summer haven’t been nice to the flowers this year! Thankfully, I found one little patch where we started in The pine trees with these purple-blue wildflowers.

The Couple

Now a little background on the cute couple. Katie is from Colorado and loves the mountains and hiking. She met Dylan over 4 years ago and they were just friends before he left on his mission. Katie actually went home with his brother as friends and met his family before they were even dating! Dillon is from San Diego, and they will be getting married there later this year. They love hiking, enjoying the outdoors and gave me some of the funniest date ideas I’ve ever heard!

Dating Ideas

Get this… they bought an air mattress, and had a picnic on the middle of palisades lake! How awesome right?! They had an oar and a cooler with all their food and snacks. As they were out in the middle of the lake, they even got pulled over by a cop!

He said, “well this is a 1st,” asked them if they had life jackets, and they said,” no”, so he gave them life jackets! He told them they needed those in case a storm comes, or they would die out there. What a nice cop to give them life jackets! They said he was so nice about it, but wanted to make sure they were safe. Another time they put dye in squirt guns and sprayed each other with white shirts to make tie-dye shirts! I am starting to think I should get my date night ideas from my clients!

Sawtelle Mountian, Island Park

For our second spot, We went to an open field with a Mountain View behind. That mountain is where we went up to for the last locations. On the way up Sawtelle we found beautiful locations with pine trees, sunflowers, and a few wildflowers, and fun rocks for them to sit on. I kept telling them how amazing the top of the mountain would be for our last location and they didn’t believe me until we got there.

Every time I go there the song, I’m on top of the world by imagine dragons come plays in my head. You can see everything from the Tetons to Henry’s Lake to Island Park reservoir. It’s a perfect date night to go to the top and watch the sunset. Hopefully, you won’t get blown away as we did! We struggled against 40mph winds, but it was 100% worth it.
