Your big day is approaching, and if you’re reading this, that means you’re probably planning a destination wedding! Congratulations! I know how exciting having found THE dress is and being able to marry your person in the perfect dress – it’s literally what dreams are made of. But, the big question, how do you travel with your wedding dress? It’s an integral piece in your wedding day, so let’s make sure it gets there in one piece, looking beautiful.
First things first, find a heavy duty garment bag that will protect your dress while traveling. Whether you’re flying, driving, or on a train, having that extra protection will be your saving grace. Most likely when you pick up your dress from the bridal shop, they’ll put it in a light weight garment bag to protect it from dust, etc. If you’re planning to travel with your wedding dress, it’s time to upgrade that bag!
Imagine, it’s the morning of your big Jackson Hole wedding, and your dress is wrinkled, or worse, your partner’s shirt is wrinkled from travel. Insert a handheld steamer here! It’s the perfect way to get wrinkles out of your gown without using a clunky iron (and a steamer is likely what was used in the bridal shop too!) Steamers are a great travel hack for any destination wedding, and won’t take up much room while packing. Simply plug it in, and get to work!
Destination weddings often time require a bit of traveling, if you’re flying to yours, make sure you protect your dress! First, when flying, make sure you have your dress in a protective garment bag, like the ones I linked above. I suggest keeping your hands on your dress the whole time you’ll be traveling, don’t check it with your luggage, bring it with you on the plane.
If the dress doesn’t fit carry-on regulations, you may need to buy your dress a ticket. This is one important wedding detail after all! While it may be a little cumbersome, getting the dress to your destination in one piece is crucial. If your dress does fit carry-on regulations, throw it in an overhead bin, and enjoy your flight!
As you’ve probably figured out throughout the whole planning process, asking for help is so important. Lean on your support system to help you through the day, and leading up to it! Especially when you travel with your wedding dress, having a friend, or even your partner there to lend a hand will be so helpful, and less stress. Have your person take a shift with the dress while you run to the bathroom, or even just getting it to its destination!
Last but not least, don’t forget to bring stain removing necessities in case something comes up! My number one recommendation is a Tide to Go Pen, this little guy is little but mighty. Check out Shout Wipe & Go, and Oxi Clean Pens! Make sure to bring safety pins, and a small sewing kit in case of emergency!
