Throughout my and Sadie’s time as Island Park wedding photographers we have witnessed incredible love stories. But Makayla and Jonah’s was written in the stars, the two of them are absolutely perfect together. Their boho western Island Park wedding was filled with incredible support from family and friends, and their love story is one for the books. Saddle up partner because this wedding will knock your boots right off your feet!
While I’m getting to know my couples during consultation calls, I love hearing their ‘meet cute’ or how they met, and their love story. Makayla and Jonah’s story is simply incredible, Jonah details their first interactions so sweetly, I’ll let him share with us!
“The story of Makayla and I begins much sooner than most love stories. We were not high school sweethearts, or even middle school sweethearts. Makayla and I first met in kindergarten. I still have detailed memories of the times we spent in kindergarten together. Our mothers spent much time together in the church’s prayer group, and became good friends. Since Makayla and I have birthdays only four days apart, we even shared a birthday together one year. In second grade, during a VeggieTales movie, I vividly remember Makayla reaching for my hand.”
Throughout the story, Jonah goes on to explain how the two lost touch as families moved. But rekindled their friendship in high school, and later met again in college at ISU. That college interaction was when everything changed, and they became inseparable. After five years of dating, Jonah finally popped the question, the couple says it all happened according to God’s plan. Their strong faith and commitment to each other is so romantic.
Once it was time for their dreamy boho western Island Park wedding, it was a cowboy’s dream wedding. The couple got married at the Hitching Post wedding venue, and it was perfect for their vision. Makayla and Jonah put so much time and effort into all of the details and it paid off. From the cow skin and cow horns, to the hats and bolo ties, the singing of the National Anthem, and a branding ceremony it was a day to remember! The bouquets were even placed in cow horns to ensure the western theme was found throughout the day.
There were even horses in attendance! Makayla looked stunning in her form fitting wedding gown, and heirloom turquoise jewelry throughout her bridal look. She shared an emotional first look with her father, and got ready to take the next step in life with her soon-to-be husband, Jonah!
The couple spent lots of time ensuring family and God were the forefront of their wedding, with Grandpa Bob officiating the wedding, and scriptures read throughout the ceremony. Multiple prayers were given during the ceremony, and they even had someone sing the national anthem during the ceremony. It was an incredibly romantic and long awaited event for all in attendance. The couple even branded together to solidify their union as husband and wife.
Later after their western Island Park wedding, they served dutch oven styled food at their reception and had roping as part of their activities for the evening! Makayla and Jonah shared a sweet first dance, and celebrated the rest of the evening with close friends and family.
