Being a Pocatello family photographer means you have to be prepared no matter what. Whenever the Blad family books a family session we end up having “the storm of a century”. Lucky for us their good friend owns the old historic fire station in downtown Pocatello. Brian Blad, is the mayor of Pocatello. It does seem fitting to take their family photos in a location that preserves a chunk of Pocatello history. The Historic Pocatello Fire Station.
The Blad family has kids in different states across the country. Getting everyone together is an accomplishment. They have the funnest and energetic grandkids. All the uncles and the aunt wanted their own photos with them. You can tell they are a close knit family. The love is tangable!
Pocatello has a… colorful history. It’s a railroad town that was established in 1889 and was coined, “The Gateway to the Northwest”. While it started out as a town you passed on your way to the Oregon or the Gold Rush in California, it soon became an agricultural area. There was a TedTalk about how we had the ugliest flag in the nation, but we got a new flag some years ago to fix that!
The name “Pocatello” came from the Shoshone Indian chief. This chief also allowed the railroad a way though what we know now as the Fort Hall Indian Reservation. Shoshone and Bannock Indian tribes lived in and established this area hundreds of years before Lewis and Clark made their journey.
Lewis and Clark journeyed and explored Idaho in 1805. Due to their findings many trappers and traders came to the area. After the gold rush, and exploration to the west people settled in the Pocatello area. In 1882 Pocatello became a beautiful agricultural area thanks to our rivers.
1886 the Pocatello fire department was established. Horses were first used but phased out in the 1920s. They got their first truck in 1916, and this station is located by Pocatello High School. Looking at these old photos its easy to see that old town was a bustling place. Check out these photos of the Historic Pocatello Fire Station. Photographs are from the city of Pocatello.
