February 5, 2022
2022 as a Jackson Hole photographer has been stressful. If you are not aware there were some big changes made in 2022. First, a big change is ceremony locations! However, we have worked hard to get all the information so you don’t have too! Here is the 2022 Grand Teton National Park elopement guide.
First, a big change in 2022 was that there are now only 6 locations you can have your ceremony. While that may limit a few things, these locations are still breathtaking! Throughout years past you’ve been able to choose to get married wherever you wanted, but with these restrictions in place, options are a little more limited if you have total guests over 11. Nevertheless, still filled with beauty for your big day! They are: Schwabacher Landing, Mormon Row (North or South), Mountain View Turnout, Glacier View Turnout, Snake River Overlook, Colter Bay Swim Beach
Locations are marked in red. The yellow marker is for The Wedding Tree. While you do not need a permit for this location (for groups under 75) you do need to get on their calendar! Need more information? You can find more information about that here.
Although we are saddened that there are many locations not on the ceremony list, we’re going to make the best of it! We are able to take photos at other locations, but they will need to be within 1/2 mile from the trailhead and/or parking lot. Nevertheless it just means you’ll need to trust your photographers (us!) to take care of finding the perfect spot for your dreamy pictures.
While planning, keep in mind permits you may need to get married on site. Unless you are eloping at Chapel of the Transfiguration, the Chapel of the Sacred Heart, or a concession facility such as Jackson Lake Lodge you will need a permit!
There is a $200 non-refundable processing fee for a special use permit.
You must apply at least 30 days in advance, and there are time frames as to when you can apply. Special Use Applications are open for 2022. 2023 ceremonies will be available by mid-November 2022. The permits are given on a first come first serve basis. Because of this and limited permits for each location specific areas like Schwabacher Landing are going to sell out fast! If you want to elope in GTNP apply now.
Grand Teton National Park has really done a fantastic job listing the steps. Follow the steps listed HERE.
Now since you’ve figured out how to apply and what location you want, we get to move on to more fun planning. HOORAY! Let’s touch on a couple things that you need to know about like wedding license, officiants, witnesses, where to stay, where to eat, and some vendors to check out!
You will need an officiant and 2 witnesses minimum to elope in Grand Teton National Park, and anywhere else in the state of Wyoming. Lucky for you, I am an awesome witness. If you book our videographer too, then you don’t need anyone else! Just outside of the park you can get a marriage license in Jackson Hole. Apply in person, and you can’t be cousins – they will ask!
Need some help finding an officiant? Here are some of my top picks!
T. HAMISH TEAR
Hamish is a humanist celebrant. “Humanist Celebrants conduct secular, nonreligious and inter-religious weddings, memorials, baby naming, and other life-cycle ceremonies. Endorsed by the Humanist Society, adjunct of the American Humanist Association, and as a Jackson Hole Wedding Officiant, I perform ceremonies in the Greater Yellowstone Region and even country-wide.”
Michael Leach
“If you’re looking for a cookie cutter, cake in the box ceremony, I’m probably not your guy. But if you’re looking for a personalized approach from someone who’s committed to learning your story and telling it well, then I’d love to team up with you to provide a once in a lifetime experience for your special day.”
Cindy Dahlin
“Your wedding is a time to celebrate your relationship and marks a joyous start to your life together. The backdrop of Jackson Hole & Grand Teton National Park makes your grand wedding, vow renewals, elopement, civil ceremony, or christian ceremony the perfect place to celebrate & mark your memorable day. I offer personalized attention, advice & will administer a ceremony reflecting your values. I am happy to incorporate elements from many traditions.”
Jackson Lake Lodge
“Jackson Lake Lodge is located in the heart of Grand Teton National Park. A full-service, historic eco-hotel, the Lodge features 385 rooms including stunning suites, main lodge hotel rooms, and quiet cottages. The lodge also includes a variety of dining options, outdoor excursions, meeting and event spaces, retail shops, a swimming pool, and an interpretive exhibit featuring authentic Native American artifacts and Western art.”
The Loge at Jackson Hole
“Located just minutes from the hustle and bustle of Jackson’s historic Town Square, The Lodge’s inviting guest rooms, world-class amenities and personalized service ensure that you are well rested and well prepared for an unforgettable Jackson Hole experience.”
Jenny Lake Lodge
“The exclusive Jenny Lake Lodge is a vacationers dream. You’ll find this well-situated lodge hidden beneath towering spruces at the foot of the Grand Tetons. Jenny Lake Lodge is the product of evolution as it began as a dude ranch for city folk eager for the experience of “roughing it” for a few weeks and emerged a 4-diamond eco-resort offering the finest service and lodging while still experiencing a national park.”
Snow King Resort Hotel and Condos
“Snow King boasts a location unlike any other Jackson Hole resort. Conveniently located blocks from the town of Jackson’s famous antler arches, just a few minutes from Jackson Hole airport & Grand Teton National Park and just steps away from Snow King Mountain. There’s plenty of adventures to be found. That’s why we’ve built packages with the flexibility to make your vacation unforgettable.”
